On Friday 16th October, The Tudor Songbook comes to the Great Hall of the Old Palace for an evening of music from the Tudor and Elizabethan courts. Performed by classically trained soprano and early music specialist Jay Britton, accompanied by lute, the programme features songs that would once have been heard in royal courts and noble households across Europe.
What to expect
Music from the Tudor court
Spanning a century of history, the programme features music associated with Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, alongside works by John Dowland and other composers of the period. Together, the songs offer an insight into the culture, politics and artistic life of Tudor England and beyond.

A historic setting
The performance takes place in the Great Hall of the Old Palace, the surviving wing of the royal palace built in 1485. Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood here and held her first Council of State in the Great Hall following her accession in 1558.
About The Tudor Songbook
Jay Britton is a classically trained soprano specialising in early music and Tudor history. Performing in historically inspired costume and accompanied by period instruments, she brings a deep understanding of the music and the world in which it was created.
The Tudor Songbook has been performed at historic houses and heritage sites across the country, including Hardwick Hall and Speke Hall.
