The Hair of the Dog: A Decade of Dedication at Hatfield Park
Ten years ago, Linda Jane Stone embarked on a journey. A journey that began with a power outage and a single dog grooming table. The retail space offered to her at Hatfield Park was unique and Linda, a seasoned trainer from Oaklands College, saw potential. A quick peek through the window with a friend sealed the deal. “You’ll never look back,” her friend said, and she hasn’t.
On February 10th, The Hair of the Dog celebrates its 10th anniversary. From humble beginnings, Linda has built a thriving business, grooming countless dogs and training aspiring groomers. Her loyal clientele speaks volumes about her skill and passion. Offering City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 dog grooming qualifications, she’s highly respected in the industry, nurturing the next generation of dog groomers.
Linda’s influence extends far beyond the grooming table. A dedicated dog show enthusiast, she’s been exhibiting at Crufts for 14 years with three different breeds – Miniature Schnauzers, Russian Black Terriers, and Miniature Poodles – consistently being placed year on year and won Groomer of the Year at Premier Groom in 2017, presented at the Kennel Club building. Her international showing career is a testament to her commitment to canine excellence. She’s also a Crufts steward and will be judging her first championship show at Windsor next year.
The training school at The Hair of the Dog is a source of immense pride for Linda. She loves sharing her expertise and watching her students flourish, establishing their own successful grooming businesses. The dog-friendly atmosphere of Hatfield Park provides the perfect backdrop for her venture. With dog-friendly restaurants and shops, it’s a haven for canine lovers. Linda envisions further growth with the addition of a self-service dog wash.
The Hair of the Dog isn’t the only success story at Hatfield Park. Linda’s daughter, Reneé Stone, makeup artist, skin and body specialist, has been running her own business at the park for the past four years, and her friend Dee has been there for five, having initially shared space with Linda. Slumbering Hound offers bespoke, high quality dog gifts and accessories, and is another thriving independent business in the park.
Linda’s commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of The Hair of the Dog. From the highly technical, automated equipment to her vast experience, knowledge, and qualifications, she provides the very best for her clients. She feels deeply connected to Hatfield Park, describing it as “stepping into another world,” a place where she’s part of a “big happy family.”
Adding another layer to her story, Linda is officially Lady Linda Jane Stone, a title gifted to her by her children. From a single table to a thriving business and a respected figure in the dog grooming and showing world, Lady Linda’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and a deep love for dogs. Here’s to the next decade of The Hair of the Dog at Hatfield Park!
