Art exhibition captures community creativity.
The Salisbury Square redevelopment is set to create a bustling hub for Old Hatfield. Thanks to a new community art project, work has already begun to bring a sense of place and togetherness to the area. The initiative, sponsored by Hatfield Park, features a vibrant display of mandalas, transforming the hoardings of Salisbury Square into a canvas of creativity and community spirit.
Local businesses and residents came together to produce the artwork, and 21 individual pieces of art have now been mounted to the hoarding opposite Falcon’s Deli for all to enjoy.
The initiative was led by Irena Falcone from Falcon’s Deli, alongside Karen Hill from Essence Beauty. Irena hosted a highly successful mandala workshop recently for Old Hatfield businesses and residents, artwork from which is featured in the installation.
Mandalas are intricate, circular designs that hold significant cultural and spiritual meaning in various cultures. They represent the universe, unity, and harmony, making them a perfect symbol for community art. The symmetrical patterns and vivid colour of mandalas draw viewers in, encouraging a moment of reflection and appreciation.
The regeneration of Salisbury Square is one of the key projects identified in the Hatfield 2030 Renewal Framework. The development, which will be completed in Spring 2026, will feature the completion of Arm and Sword Lane with a terrace of five additional, traditionally designed new homes, car parking with EV charging points, cycle storage and a car club, and enhanced public areas. Salisbury Square will offer versatile commercial, retail, and hospitality spaces, along with three new apartments.
The Salisbury Square redevelopment is not just about physical transformation but also about nurturing a vibrant and inclusive community. The art project not only enhances the construction site but is the beginning of a series of events and activities to benefit the Old Hatfield community.
The official unveiling of the project will take place on Friday, 29th November at 12:15 pm, celebrating community collaboration and artistic expression. Residents of Old Hatfield and business owners are invited to attend.
Following the success of the mandala workshop, Irena Falcone is also hosting a Christmas decoration workshop on Saturday, 30th November at Falcon’s Deli.
