Salisbury Square Reaches New Heights: A Milestone in Community Development

A traditional topping out ceremony recently marked the completion of the structural framework for the new development at Salisbury Square, Old Hatfield, bringing us ever closer to realising our vision of creating improved wellbeing and vibrant lifestyles for all who will live, work, or visit.

The ceremony was well-attended by distinguished guests including Lord and Lady Salisbury and Councillor Lynn Chesterman. They were joined by representatives from Boom Construction, Gascoyne Estates, and key members of the local community, including the Old Hatfield Residents Association and Donna Schultz, CEO of The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce. This diverse presence highlighted the collaborative effort and wider support for Salisbury Square’s anticipated positive impact.

Insights from Project Leaders and Community Stakeholders

The event featured a series of insightful speeches that highlighted the anticipated benefits of Salisbury Square. Following a welcome by Jorge Mendonça, CEO of Gascoyne Estates, speakers emphasized how the development is designed to enrich the lives of those within the area, creating a more dynamic, connected, and healthy environment.

Lord Salisbury expressed his strong endorsement for the project: “Salisbury Square will inject new life and spirit into our community. We are delighted to be reintroducing vibrancy, linking Old Hatfield to Hatfield Park, and creating a natural connection that will bring employment, shopping, and a renewed buzz to this area. This is a tribute to the patience of Old Hatfield residents, and through our consultation process, we hope to deliver a truly revitalized Salisbury Square. We extend our gratitude to Boom Construction for being such brilliant partners.”

Councillor Lynn Chesterman shared a personal perspective on the area’s importance: “Speaking from the heart, I have wonderful memories of Salisbury Square. We moved here over 50 years ago, and it would be wonderful to have this back. I am delighted as it was something we loved, and I wish the scheme every success, and for new people to enjoy it once more.”

Joe Sharp of Boom Construction further elaborated on the project’s significance: “Salisbury Square is more than just a physical development; it is a privilege to be involved with. It’s a community that is giving back. We employ trainees who have worked on the scheme from start to finish, improving their development. It has been a pleasure to work with Gascoyne Estates, and we thank the community for their ongoing patience.” This highlights the commitment to both physical development and investment in local talent.

 A Consecration for Future Prosperity

A significant moment during the ceremony was the blessing offered by Bishop Rob Gillion, who stated: “This ancient Saxon ceremony introduces a good spirit and a positive future, creating a place of peace and purpose. We are celebrating the talents of the team that have gone into this project, and I am confident of its positive impact on the community as we consecrate this space.”

 The Vision for Salisbury Square
